Two of our least favorite words here at The ShowRoom Cinema are “Sold Out” and, unfortunately, we had to say that to a few of you this past Sunday. Don’t despair: RBG is here again this weekend, along with BEAST, the surprising drama critics have been raving about. Added to the mix is the documentary THAT SUMMER, which fans of GREY GARDENS will certainly want to see. And, in celebration of LBGTQ Pride Month, we’re having a special one night only screening of the documentary TO A MORE PERFECT UNION: UNITED STATES V. WINDSOR, the inspiring story of Edie Windsor and her fight for marriage equality.
The weather report is looking a little sketchy for the weekend. Don’t miss out on a movie: buy your tickets in advance at the box office or online if you plan on seeing a film Saturday or Sunday.
MOVIE DETAILS: RBG is a revelatory documentary exploring the exceptional life and career of 84 year old U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who has developed a breathtaking legal legacy while becoming an unexpected pop culture icon. Without a definitive Ginsburg biography the unique personal journey of this diminutive, quiet warrior’s rise to the nation’s highest court has been largely unknown, even to some of her biggest fans – until now. Directed by Betsy West and Julie Cohen. WATCH THE TRAILER.
“Already on my list as one of the year’s best documentaries…” – Diane Carson, KDHX (St. Louis)
Three years before the Maysles brothers introduced us to the peculiar and secluded world of Edith and Edie Beale (cultural icons in their own right) in the landmark documentary Grey Gardens, renowned photographer Peter Beard chronicled life at their crumbling estate during one summer in 1972. Director Goran Olsson(The black Power Mixtape 1967 – 1975) has assembled this long-lost footage to create THAT SUMMER, a one-of-a-kind family portrait of that complicated mother and daughter. WATCH THE TRAILER.
“Not only does the film breathe new life into an American family surrounded by tragic mythos, but it sheds light on a cinematic treasure that forever changed documentary filmmaking.” – Jude Dry, indieWire
Jessie Buckley is being lauded for her role in BEAST, as are co-star Johnny Flynn and first-time feature writer/director Michael Pearce. Moll (Buckley) is 27 and still living at home, stifled by the small island community around her and too beholden to her family to break away. When she meets Pascal (Flynn), a free-spirited stranger, a whole new world opens up to her and she begins to feel alive for the first time, falling madly in love – to no good end. WATCH THE TRAILER.
“Not since Sissy Spacek fell in with Martin Sheen in Badlands has an actress taken us through the process of swapping home and hearth for a homicidal maniac with the manic intensity Buckley displays here.” – Scott Marks, San Diego Reader

FUTURE FILMS WE ARE ANTICIPATING: Movies listed as “Coming Soon” are films The ShowRoom Cinema would like to present and is actively trying to book.
