ROLLING! ASBURY PARK, a series of three skateboarding films, professional talks and a film challenge, will begin this July at The ShowRoom Cinema, announced Carrie Turner, concept developer of ROLLING! ASBURY PARK. Asbury Park residents and The ShowRoom Cinema owners, Nancy Sabino and Mike Sodano, have teamed up with Turner and the local skateboarding movement to craft an initiative that marries film with recreation and youth education. The project is the first phase of a proposed film and video production summer camp for Asbury Park youth.
In addition to the three films, which were selected to appeal to skateboarders as well as other members of Asbury Park’s diverse, artistic community, the ShowRoom will host the ROLLING! ASBURY PARK APin3 – short film challenge focused on a central theme of skateboarding. The challenge is a filmmaking competition where contestants produce a 3-minute film in Asbury Park within 72 hours. The goal is to engage the young people of the skateboarding community and filmmaking enthusiasts who might have an interest in the summer film camp. Details of the competition, tentatively scheduled for the weekend of October 6th-9th, will be announced shortly.
